Compared to breast cancer, cancer diseases of the uterus, ovaries, vagina or vulva are less common. All the more important for optimal treatment is the experience of large centres for gynaecological cancers, such as the Women’s Clinic in Bad Cannstatt Hospital. We consider ourselves as a competence centrer, where not only the organ is treated, but also the particular situation of our patients is taken into account. We stand for sensitive diagnosis and therapy based on scientific knowledge.
At the Centre for Gynaecological Cancer in Stuttgart Hospital specialists work together for interdisciplinary diagnosis and therapy:
Depending on tumour spread the following disciplines are consulted for and after the operation:

From diagnosis to therapy
Diagnostic Radiology
Oncologic surgical spectrum
Conservative therapy procedures (ambulatory and stationary)
Many patients may have the opportunity to participate in new treatment methods in the form of studies.
Operation planning with sensitivity
Individual operation planning allows for optimal therapy. While on one hand there is today the possibility for more and more radical gynaecological operations supported by visceral surgery, urology and intensive care, highly advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques are also available requiring great experience. Many gynaecological tumours can be operated in this protective manner. The operational standards are based on guidelines of the German Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (DGGG) and the German Cancer Aid.
Histological examination
The microscopic examination of tissue samples specifies the right treatment path.
Tumour conference
The individual treatment strategy is interdisciplinary discussed and determined, involving all disciplines in the weekly tumour conference.
Chemotherapy and radiation therapy
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are individually tailored to the patient, based on guidelines.
See the person as a whole - Psycho-oncological care
The diagnosis of cancer for affected women and relatives poses an extreme burden. Existential anxiety, worry and despair may appear. Hospitalization, treatments and possible side effects are experienced as stressful. Also in follow-up, questions arises as to what to do next and how life will go on after the disease. All patients can get consultation and support from the psycho-oncology team. Together, individual goals are defined.
Studies
To improve the treatment of patients with gynaecological cancers, the Gynaecological Cancer Centre of Stuttgart Hospital is involved in national and international therapy studies in which patients may participate, if desired.
Quality
Our task is the guideline-oriented and quality-assured treatment of all cancers in the field of gynaecology. The Centre meets the requirements of the Gynaecological Oncology Association (AGO) of the German Cancer Society (DKG) and the German Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (DGGG). The result quality is regularly inspected internally and externally in collaboration with the oncology focus of Stuttgart.
